About

Kaplak is a startup dedicated to the online challenges faced by niche producers, who wants to sell products via the internet, which are of less than mainstream interest, but of intense interest to a few.

Founders

Kaplak was founded October 15th 2007 by Morten Blaabjerg, Jens Wellejus and Jesper Böttzauw. To begin with, Kaplak was founded as an association, but we had trouble making this type of organization work, and in the spring 2008 Kaplak was transformed into a privately owned company, developed and owned by Morten Blaabjerg. This company has as a primary objective to develop Kaplak into a sustainable business, at which point the organization of Kaplak will change again.

The Kaplak Team

For the time being, the Kaplak team consists of everyone who contributes to Kaplak, i.e. contributes to solve the problems we face. This includes open source developers from all corners of the world, whose extensions and plugins we make heavily use of.

Our first website was designed by web developer Johnnie Johansen, including the graphical appearance of ‘our ship’. The ship is a metaphor for our company breaking the stormy waves and cables of the internet. Mikkel Christensen provides Kaplak’s hosting solution. Developers Anders Nicolaisen and Jesper Beltoft Lund has developed several extensions for the Kaplak Wiki and the sketchy foundations of URLsale. Morten Blaabjerg is the founder, CEO and lead developer, currently laying the foundations for Kaplak Stream.

Want to help?

We’re always looking to expand the Kaplak team with more talented developers and web designers.

There are currently no formal vacant positions in Kaplak, as we can’t formally hire or pay anyone yet. For the time being, the Kaplak team consists of everyone who contributes to Kaplak, i.e. contributes to solve the problems we face. This includes open source developers from all corners of the world, whose extensions and plugins we make heavily use of.

Please do get in touch, if you are interested in helping out. We don’t care where you live in the world or what your background is, as long as you want to do some good to help meet the challenges we face. Much can be accomplished by the clever use of the many tools we apply, externally as well as internally. A good place to start our conversation is usually by commenting on our blog or adding stuff to our wiki. You can also follow and message us on social messaging sites such as Twitter or Identi.ca. It could be a helpful tip, a useful plugin or some tidbit of information, which enlightens our way. We emphasize the value of mutually understanding what’s at stake and building the tools we need, which is why we also emphasize the importance of doing most of our conversation in complete public, so that others may eventually share and learn too. Both we and they may be able to help you too.

When we eventually do want to hire someone, we’ll make good use of our built-up professional network, in our own space as well as in the online spaces we make use of, such as LinkedIn, Identi.ca and Twitter. You may then find open positions publicized in these spaces. Stay tuned.
